What is MiniMax Code?

MiniMax Code is an AI Agent workbench launched by MiniMax, positioned as a “local Agent application anchored in programming.” It integrates chat, project workspace, files, terminal, built-in browser, Skills, memory, and scheduled tasks within a single environment. Once the user provides a goal, the Agent automatically plans, executes, and delivers results. It offers two modes: Coding and Work. Coding mode retains projects, terminal, and code context, while Work mode hides technical details and is designed for research, documents, PPTs, data organization, and web building. The desktop version supports remote control from your phone, cloud-device collaboration, and multimodal generation. Its CLI (mcode) is open-sourced under the MIT license, providing an interactive TUI, headless mode, and ACP editor integration, with support for Plan mode, sub-Agents, session resumption, and rollback. By default, it uses MiniMax’s model service, and it also supports bringing your own API Key or compatible endpoints.
