What is TRAE?

TRAE (The Real AI Engineer) is an AI-native development platform launched by ByteDance. The international version went live in January 2025, followed by the China version in March of the same year. It offers two working paradigms: IDE mode retains the full editor, terminal, debugging, and Git workflows, making it suitable for in-depth coding and precise debugging; Agent mode is AI-driven, autonomously handling the entire workflow from requirement understanding, code generation, and testing to result preview, and can orchestrate multiple agents working in parallel across projects within the same workspace. The product is available as a desktop IDE, web app, and mobile app, as well as plugins for VS Code, JetBrains, and Android Studio, plus a terminal CLI. The platform comes with built-in Agent agents, CUE code completion, codebase indexing, # context references, Rules, Memories, and Skills, and extends its capabilities through MCP, custom agents, and Hooks. It also supports Figma-to-code conversion, browser and computer operations, cloud tasks, and scheduled tasks. Official website: https://www.trae.ai/ GitHub: https://github.com/bytedance/trae-agent
